Licensing
Every asset keeps its author's license. Here's how we handle that.

The Base is a catalog, not a rights holder. We do not own the assets we list — each one is created and licensed by its author. Our job is to surface free assets and point you to the source, clearly and honestly.
Read the source license
The license shown on an asset is our best summary of the author's terms at the time we listed it. Terms can change, and only the author's own license is authoritative. Before you use an asset — especially in commercial or client work — open the original source and confirm the current license for your specific use.
How we classify
- External site (link-only).The default. The asset lives on the author's website and you download it there. We link out and never redistribute the files ourselves.
- Direct download. We host the files only when the source explicitly allows redistribution. When in doubt, we stay link-only.
We classify conservatively on purpose. We never claim an asset is free to redistribute unless its source clearly says so.
Attribution and credit
Some licenses require crediting the author; many appreciate it even when it is optional. Credit goes to the original creator, not to The Base. When a license asks for attribution, follow the author's wording.
The Base brand
The name, logo, catalog structure, and written content of The Base are ours. Listing an asset does not transfer any rights in it to us, and it does not grant you rights in our branding.
Are you the author?
If a listing is wrong, or you would like your asset removed or its link updated, tell us on the contact page and we will fix it quickly. See also our terms and FAQ.
